An Interview with Carter Glade

Carter Glade is an actor known for Freaky, Her Deadly Secret and American Animals. I spoke with Carter about his background in acting training, portraying Tobin in Freaky, his upcoming role in Better Call Saul and his future projects.

Did you always want to pursue a career in acting?

From the very beginning I knew there was an itch in me that I couldn't quite understand... It took me some time to figure out what it was and when I did, everything just felt right. Despite all the rejection the industry brings, having that tunnel vision and belief is what will keep you going!

Did you receive any formal training?

I studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in West Hollywood, Barry Papick acting studios (Meisner), and Private on-screen coaching with Marnie Cooper. I currently am under Natalie Ford Acting studios via zoom which has been an absolute blast.

What’s the best advice a director has given you on set?

I actually think it was from my most recent shoot (Better Call Saul) from my Director, Melissa Bernstein. I remember being a tad bit flustered with our Netlfix line coach (Speaking German) and she just looked at me with a calm smile saying, "you are here for a reason, now go live freely." Fireworks went off in my head and it just completely calmed me with a clear focus. Just be present and true to your character.

Are there any directors or actors that you’d particularly like to work with?

If I had the opportunity to collaborate with Christopher Nolan, that would be a personal dream of mine. Also Alma Har'el… the way she can make the story in her eyes behind the camera come alive is extremely rare.

You portrayed Tobin in Freaky. Could you tell me more about this?

Of course! Playing Tobin was extremely fun in the sense of playing a football jock. I think the biggest thing for me while shooting Freaky was just soaking everything up, learning from all the incredible actors around me, and just having fun. I have so much gratitude for our director Christopher Landon and writer Michael Kennedy. They are both masterminds at what they do and have an ease of contagious confidence around them which was great to see in action.

Could you tell me more about your upcoming role in Better Call Saul?

I can't say too much right now about Better Call Saul because of all the NDA's, but what I can say is that their sixth and final season is going out with a bang!

Are you currently working on any other projects?

I currently have a couple of projects up in the air for the future, but I think just staying extremely present and taking it a day at a time is everything I'm focusing on. Thank you so much for having me!
